Airlink's Embraer jets are being used for the new St Helena services.

The South Atlantic island of St Helena will welcome the first commercial flight landing at its airport on Saturday, 14 October. The Airlink Embraer E190-100IGW jetliner is due to touch down from Johannesburg via Windhoek (Namibia) with 78 passengers on board at 13:15GMT – the aircraft will stay overnight on St Helena and will return to using the same route the following day. Thereafter (from Saturday, 21 October) the service will operate on a weekly basis.

Island Governor Lisa Phillips said: “As the big day draws near, I, for one, am getting really excited about the new chapter in St Helena’s history.  I am sure everyone will give this first flight a huge St Helena welcome.  For the people on the flight this week, and every subsequent week, the people of St Helena will be making those memories for our visitors. Let’s make sure they are fantastic ones.”

Airlink had previously carried out a ‘proving flight’ to St Helena on Monday, 21 August 2017, using an Embraer E190-100IGW aircraft.
